Post by Kaileena Lovegood on Jun 7, 2010 12:18:51 GMT -5
Kaileena Lovegood swept into the large classroom, shushing a couple of first year Gryffindor girls that were giggling and talking. A strand of hair flew into her face and she huffed at it, trying to blow it out of her face. When she didn't work, she swatted her hair and smiled in triumph. She cleared her throat when the students began to stare and her smile melted off. She walked gracefully to the front of the desk, propping herself against it and took in a deep breath. "Good morning, everyone. My name is Professor Kaileena Lovegood, but you'll kindly refer to me as Professor Lovegood, and nothing else." She pushed off of the desk and clasped her hands behind her back, pacing around. "Today is going to be a rather easy day," she said. As she spoke, the chalk that was on the board next to her levitated and began writing her name on it. "Today we're going to be discussing what exactly the Dark Arts are. Can anyone tell me what the Dark Arts are?" A small, wispy girl raised a shaky hand up and Kaileena pointed to her. "Yes?" "It's the practice of black magic, or magic that's harmful to someone." Kaileena unclasped her hands and crossed her arms, leaning once again on her desk. "Impressive. Everyone, write that down. Five points to Hufflepuff. Not the points thing, just what she said." She blinked in exasperation then took a deep breath to calm herself down. The corner of her lips turned up in a slight smile and she glanced over at the board. "Your assignment today is also very simple. Look in your book for a list of Dark spells, on page 27. Pick three dark spells and briefly explain what they do. Also, pick three Light spells and explain them. It's only six spells, people. It's not that big of a deal, so stop your groaning." The class fell silent again and she huffed. The chalk wrote down the assignment then promptly dropped on the ledge of it. "All right, get to work." She stood up, her robes billowing around her and she swept gracefully to her desk, sitting down in her chair. She picked up her quill to enter names in her grade book as she waited for her students to finish.

Sirius had to admit; Kaileena was a good-looking professor. He stifled the urge to wolf-whistle as she walked into the room, sure this would earn him a detention. Although for her, it would be worth it. He heard someone else enter the room and saw James wave and come and sit next to him. He gave a feeble wave back and sighed. He still hadn't completely gotten over the familial jab from the previous night, but whatever. If Potter was willing to let bygones be bygones then so was he, he guessed. Back to day-dreaming...Kaileena was a freaking dream...Through his semi-daze, he almost didn't hear the other class members begin working and he straightened up; getting out a quill and parchment. Six spells? OK, that didn't sound so bad. He flipped through his book until he got to page 27 and began writing down the first few spells.
He rubbed his chin with the tip of his quill as he thought about his answers, a laugh bubbling up as it tickled him and he quickly clamped his mouth shut. His brow furrowing in concentration, he got to work.
Light Spells: 1) Accio-Summoning Charm. Summons desired object to the spellcaster. 2) Alohomora-Unlocks virtually anything, unless the target is specifically enchanted to not let it. 3)Anapneo-Clears the target's airway.
He paused, his golden-brown eyes with their frame of intense dark lashes scanning his work so far. It didn't matter that all the light spells were from the A section, did it? Nah...she asked for Light spells, and that's what he had written. Quickly, he moved on.
Dark Spells: 1) Incarcerous-Binds the target, rendering them unable to move with invisible chains. 2)Confringo-Blasting Curse. It literally smashes or crushes whatever (or whoever) it's directed at. 3)Confundo-Confuses the target.
He looked over the paper once more, and, satisfied with his answers, he placed the paper on the desk, grinning at the professor before he left, his good mood half based on how pretty she was, half based on the fact that in this class, at least, nothing had exploded or spit on him.
(OOC: Links used- www.hp-lexicon.org/index-2.html ) Very good work, Mr. Black. For a first assignment, I'd say this is top notch. Not many people would think to use Confringo as a dark spell. 8.5/10 points.

((OOC: Yay, I has permission to use Lovegood.))James Potter walked into the classroom and his smile melted off. What a rather plain room. At least Sirius was there. He gave the boy a quick wave then glanced at the teacher. Wow, she was pretty. Almost like a taller, more blue-eyed Lily. His grin found its usual place on his face again and he took a seat next to the Black without even bothering to ask if it was OK. I'm sure he wouldn't mind...but this class just got ten times better. As he listened to her talk, he leaned in, listening to her speak.
Gosh, she's so pretty... The hand that was supporting him gave way, thudding on the desk and making him slip. He stopped himself, blinking, inches away from his nose colliding with the desk and he straightened himself with a nervous laugh. He cleared his throat and pulled out parchment idly, focusing on the board and reading it. Hm. Six spells? This was going to be a piece of cake! Flipping quickly to the page, he read over the spells and began scribbling some down. As his eyes re-scanned the spells page, he grinned. Most everyone here was going to use easy spells to get out of this quickly. He'd use more difficult spells. That way, he'd seem smarter and win more points with the teacher. He grinned. This was definitely going to be a good year.
Light Spells:
Expecto Patronum- Its light, silvery transparency is used to create a Patronus. It's mainly used to ward off Dementors.
Expelliarmus: Used to disarm an opponent, sending his or her wand flying away from them. If one uses enough force, the opponent may be flung backwards.
Riddikulus- It's used to defeat Boggarts. It distorts the original, frightening image and makes it silly, making the Boggart confused and unable to function properly.
Piece of cake, my butt! This is like the whole cake.
Dark Spells: Conjunctivitis: Used mainly to damage a person's vision. It's very painful.
Serpensortia: When used, a snake comes out of the wand and attacks the opponent.
Diffindo: It rips seams, and almost any object, including human beings.
James smiled as he finished his paper, scribbling his name on the top, and he gave it to the Professor. Well, time for my next class, I guess. He skipped off, a grin still on his face. Maybe Lily would be at this next class and he'd be able to sit next to her. ((OOC: links used- www.pojo.com/harrypotter/spelist.shtml en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter#Peskipiksi_Pesternomi ))
Excellent work, Mr. Potter. 8.7/10! Keep it up.

Sev couldn't help but snigger as he watched Sirius and James ogle the professor. Like that's ever going to happen. He rolled his eyes-those two really annoyed him for some reason-and got straight to work. It had been a long day and he was eager to go back to the Common Room, as he hadn't had much chance to check it out before. After the fiasco at the lake, he had left the feast and gone straight to bed.
Focus, he thought, turning to page 27, and began to write in his cramped scrawl.
Light Spells: 1) Reparo-Will fix practically anything. 2) Mobiliarbus-Levitates an object. 3) Lumos Solem-Creates a powerful burst of light as bright as the sun.
Dark Spells: 1) Reducto-It blasts anything out of the caster's path. If used with enough will it can completely disintegrate something. 2)Langlock-Glues the target's tongue to the roof of their mouth.
He paused before writing the last answer. Was it safe to use an Unforgivable Curse as answer? This was just for educational purposes right? No harm done. And there was no denying it. With a sigh, he wrote it down.
3)Avada Kedavra-This curse is one of the three Unforgivable Curses and is used to kill someone.
When he was done, he placed the paper on the professor's desk and left, heading back to the dungeons and down into the Slytherin Common Room. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_PageSite used.
Interesting. I wasn't expecting anyone to dish out an Unforgivable in the first lesson. You're educated indeed, Mr. Snape. Be careful though...I'd hate to see such a brilliant student fall to the Dark side. 9/10 For originality.

Night watched as the teacher entered the room and appeared to have issues with her hair before fixing it. The small female had to fight not to giggle at this. After making sure she would not utter a sound her eyes followed the teacher to the front of the room thinking that she was a very beautiful woman and idly wondered if that was her natural hair color. It most likely was. When she cleared her throat Night sat straight up back pressed against the chair quill in hand, freshly dipped in emerald ink. So her name is Kaileena Lovegood… Such a gorgeous name it fits well with the way she carries herself. Night broke free from her thoughts and focused on listening to her words. The Dark arts… This interest her, and she quickly scribbled down the definition. Her entire body was tingling with the feeling of learning something new something… possibly forbidden… However when the assignment was written on the board she groaned softly, but I don’t know any magic yet! Damn I guess this is why those from magic families seem so…. High and mighty cause they already kind of know this stuff. With a shaking hand she opened the book to page 27 and began to scan down the page. Damn, and can’t even pronounce half this crap! She mentally cursed herself for not being ahead of the game and reading the book before she got to class. Dark spells…. Come out come out… Ahha! Her finger landed on ‘pertrificus totalus’ the body binding curse. She quickly wrote it down 1. Petrificus Totalus – this spell is used to petrify the victims entire body for an period of time.
She began to quickly scan the list again and bounced at her good luck finding two dark spells right next to each other. The imperius and the cruciatus… I wonder why the spells aren’t listed for these two…. 2. The Imperius Curse- this is a total mind/body control spell 3. The Cruciatus Curse – causes intense bodily pain Oh well that’s probably why those two aren’t listed. Sounds nasty, she though cringing at the notion of being controlled and tortured. She shook her head to shake the feeling and began to look for light spells. This would be easier. She looked at the top of the page and smiled, piece of cake!1. Alohomora – this spell opens a locked doorShe looked a bit further down the list and squealed at her good luck she could find three just in the A’s 2. Anapneo – unblocks a person’s air way when they are choking 3. Avis – it is used to conjure small birds
Once she finished she wrote her name on the paper and jumped up to turn in it stumbling slightly. She hopped a few steps before she caught herself. Blushing, she turned it in and went to sit back down. So clumsy… harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Artswww.hp-lexicon.info/magic/spells/spells.html
Excellent work, Miss Grey. However, Petrificus Totalus is not considered a dark spell. 9/10

Viola tried to keep from laughing out loud, she was sitting beside a greasy haired, pallid boy from her own house. He was staring at two boys from Gryffindor, who were staring at the teacher with wide eyes. The teacher, Professor Lovegood, was having major hair issues. She was quite pretty, but seemed rather nervous. Actually, she was super nervous. But excited too. Same as Viola. She sighed in relief when Professor said it was going to be an easy day. But yet, so had the other teachers, and she hadn't fared well there either.
After some initial confusion, she copied down a few of the more obvious spells. Dark Spells: Fiendfyre- Unleashes a form of cursed fire that can take the form of beasts that have a will of their own. Inferious Reanimation- Animates dead corpses under the caster's control. Petrification- Turns a victim into a stone-like state Light Spells: Fidelius Charm- Hides a secret within someone Protego Charm- Cause spells to reflect back to the sender. Ferula- Creates bandages Not all came from her book, a lot she knew from her father, who worked for the Ministry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Artsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter
Good work, Miss Viola. Might I say that RP is slightly lacking in excitement and that's what's going to lower your grade? Not by much, but it does prevent you from getting full marks. 8/10. Keep up the good work though. I'm looking forward to having you in my class.

Post by Dastan Cross on Jun 9, 2010 1:58:00 GMT -5
Dastan strolled confidently into his Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Even though he'd had that annoying conversation with that Anna girl, he was feeling pretty good. DADA was likely to be his favorite class.
The teacher however, was not what he expected. She was kinda...well...ditsy. But how did someone like that get such a sought after job? Anyone he knew would kill to be DADA professor at Hogwarts. He decided that either A) Dumbledore was an idiot for hiring her, or B) She was more than what she seemed. And Dastan found that he preferred the second option; he couldn't imagine the wise, if unusually perky, old man being an idiot.
Thus choosing to give Professor Lovegood the benefit of the doubt, Dastan sat back and began taking some notes, but stopped not too long after-wards. He knew what the Dark Arts were. Lord Alexander was proficient in them. A lot of the spells he performed around the manor were dark arts, and some of the spells he had already taught young Dastan were also dark arts. That made this class a hundred-times easier.
Finally, the actual assignment came around. Sighing dramatically, Dastan pulled out some parchment and the quill that Dumbledore had given to him after his first Transfiguration lesson. He hoped he'd get more Practical lessons as the year progressed; he felt like he was doing an awful lot of bookwork.
Dark spells: 1)Imperius Curse: This spell is what some might consider the ultimately evil spell. It is an Unforgivable Curse, and completely takes away the free will of someone who is caught in it. 2) The Entrail-Expelling Curse: This spell is deadly, and evil. It causes the victim to have their entrails painfully ripped from their bodies. The most horrible thing is that it takes a while for death to come and relieve the victim of any pain; it takes a heart of pure evil to cast this spell. 3) Legilimens: This is not always considered a dark spell, but I find it to be one. It completely invades the mind of the victim, forcing them to give up private information.
Light Spells: 1)Protego: This spell is very useful; it blocks many spells from hitting the caster, oftentimes saving one's life. 2) Colloportus: This charm locks doors behind you; it cannot be unlocked with Alohomora, making this a very useful spell when you are trying to escape form an enemy. 3)Occlumens: This art, for it is not necessarily a spell, can only be used by very advanced witches and wizards, and protects the user from the Legillimens spell. This is very useful if you'd like to hide your private thoughts from someone, and is the ultimate mental defense.
Dastan was pretty sure his answers were pretty advanced; he only hoped the teacher would think so as well. Getting up from his seat and passing a few of the others on his way, Dastan handed the professor his parchment and then returned to his seat to pack things up.
Impressive, Mr. Cross! You get Full Marks. I commend you, young man. You're the first one to accomplish so in my class. Keep up the good work. 10/10

Post by Carter Yeardley on Jun 10, 2010 18:05:04 GMT -5
Carter wrote down the assignment on his paper, so he didn't have to keep looking up at the board. Without much whining he got his D.A.D.A and went to the correct page. Carter enjoyed reading and he really hadn't had a big chance to look through his D.A.D.A book yet, so he was actually a little excited about this lesson. Carter as much enjoy it brought him for the lesson, he still took it very seriously. So once on the right page he read through the chapter picking out what he thought were light and dark spells.
Parchment reading- Dark and light spells
Avada Kedavra- A killing cruse. No one has ever lived after being hit from this cruse. One of the three unforgivable cruses. -dark-
Crucio- Inflicts unbearable pain on the victim, also many of the victim have gone insane as an after effect of the cruse. -dark-
Firndfyre- Dangerous, uncontrollable, and extremely powerful fire which can be in most cases in a form of serpents.
Defodio- Can carve or dig out an material, such as stone and steal. -Light-
Expecto Patronum- It used to ward off Dementors. This spell, when used correctly it extremely powerful, and when used will draw joy a happiness into a white blast from wand, sometimes will take the shape of an animal. -light-
Episkey-Used to heal broken bones. When the spell is cast the bone will get hot then cold. -Light-
Carter reread his sentences carefully. Making changes here and there, looking back in the book making sure he had everything spelled correctly and that the sentence sounded right. Carter thought for moment, thinking about anything he might want to add, but nothing came to mind. Carter got up straightened his robe really quick and walked up to Professor's desk. He held out the paper. "I am not sure if they are correct. But in my head and from the description given this is were I would place these 6 spells." He stated before turning back to his desk. He sat there and listened to the sound of other quills scratching on the parchment. Once it got to quiet he took out his D.A.D.A book and started reading, until class ended.
7/10, Mr. Yeardley! It was good, and the answers were thoroughly correct. For future purposes though, work on describing the classroom and your surroundings a little more. Hope to see you in my next lesson!

Walking into the class, Roxanne was excited to learn some defense spells. When the teacher walked in, however, she couldn't even begin to hide her disappointment. Not only was this teacher a total ditz, she could tell by how the teacher walked, but she was a nervous wreck too. How could such a thing focus in the face of danger?
Then she got a hair stuck on her face. And it took her forever to get the thing off. How embarrassing. When she actually began the lesson, Roxie almost groaned. Who didn't know what the Dark Arts were? Seriously? She HAD to ask that?
Rolling her eyes, Roxie waited for the inevitable assignment. When she got the assignment, she wanted to pound her head into her desk. It was book work. The only thing she despised out of a class. Regardless, she flipped open her book, chose her spells, and wrote them down on a piece of paper.Roxanne Kincaid. D.A.D.A. :/
Light Spells -Protego: Causes spells to reflect back to the sender. (except the killing curse) -Mobilicorpus: Moves unconscious bodies -Finite Incantatum: Stops any current spells (except the Killing curse)
Dark Spells -Stupefy: Knocks out opponent -Densaugeo: Enlarges Teeth -Tarantallegra: Forces opponent to dance
(Source: x) After finishing the dreaded book work she slid out of her chair and walked up to the teacher, turning in her paper. Then she walked back, grabbed her things and happily left.
9/10 Thank you, Ms. Kinkaid!

Post by Astin Descartes on Jun 13, 2010 1:30:04 GMT -5
Astin glanced around at the classroom. Just like any other classroom in this castle, huh? Stone, stone, and... well, stone. Had there been an overabundance of stone in the past? Like, a whole castle's worth? No wonder wizards wore long, flowing robes! It was always so freaking cold!
He took a seat just as the teacher walked in. She had large eyes that kinda reminded him of an owl. Then again, maybe he'd just been around too many of those, lately.
He had to resist the urge to forcefully slam his head against his desk when she announced that they would be doing bookwork. Why am I not surprised? he thought wryly. He flipped open his book and got started.Light Spells 1) The Bedazzling Spell-- It, uh, bedazzles people. Like that one device-- it's muggle and it puts rhinestones and sequins on everything. So I guess it turns people into drag queens. 2) Four-Point Spell-- It makes your wand point north, like a cheap make-shift compass. 3) Riddikulus-- It banishes boggarts, which from the sounds of it, are nasty little things that need banishing.
Dark Spells 1) Conjunctivitis Curse-- It affects the target's vision. I don't know how, just that it does. Probably in a bad way. Although it would be helpful if it gave them perfect eyesight. 2) Flagrante Curse-- This causes the target (an object in this case) to burn whoever touches it. One day, I will use this on fire. The world will explode. 3) Locomotor Mortis, or Leg-Locker Curse-- It locks together the legs of the victims, so they have to hop if they want to go anywhere.Astin looked back over his paper. So maybe this wasn't his best work and it was hard to hide how... well, not serious he was about this assignment, but what could he say? Even if he was a Hufflepuff, he was still lazy from time to time.*links: www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/spells/spells.html *
Haha! Very entertaining. Thank you, Mr. Descartes. 10/10

Skylar slid into the class and found his seat. Looking around, he smiled at yet another cozy looking stone classroom. He even smiled at the teacher. She seemed nice, albeit a little ditzy. But hey, wasn't everyone now and then? When she began the class, he smiled. She had a comforting voice.
He nodded in agreement with the definition of the Dark Arts, still disgusted by the Dark Arts. He hated evil. That's why he was in the class, to protect. So he could banish evil back to where it came. He didn't like that the first assignment was book work though.
Being a good kid, he flipped open his book and copied down spells that looked interesting to him. After picking his spells, the pulled out his quill, ink, and parchment and wrote them down.Skylar! D.A.D.A.
Spells for Class[/u] Light Spells*Accio (Item name) summons the specified item *Episkey heals injuries *Protego causes spells to reflect back to the sender Dark Spells*Confundus confuses an opponent *Legilimens forces the victim to tell his or her secrets. *Serpensortia produces a snake to attacks the foe (( SOURCE!))[/color] Pleased with his work, Skye walked up to the teacher's desk and turned in his work. Once again putting his stuff in his bag before getting up, he was ready to leave and just left, hoping for more next class period.((OOC: Lol, Roxie and I like, traded colors for writing and RPing. xD))

Griffin walked into the classroom and groaned. He didn't like the classes involving magic so far, but he was sure he would when he got more used to the use of magic in everyday life. He liked the professor so far, she seemed really nice and sweet. Though too much sugar can give you a stomache ache. He giggled slightly at his joke.
He was exited to learn that he didn't actually have to do magic in this class today. He was bad at all forms of magic so far. Plus, the assignment was so easy. Just describe three good spells and three bad spells. Too easy. He took out a piece of parchment and his quill, then he opened his book to page 27 and began to read.
Light Spells: *Protego- this spells provides a barrier that deflexts hexes. *Rennervate- this spell revises a person that has been stunned. *Finite- this stops a spell in its tracks; and Finite Incantatem stops multiple spells.
Dark Spells: *Imperio- this curse puts complete control over someone. *Crucio- this curse tortures a person more than they could possible stand. *Avada Kedarva- this curse kills someone instantly. All three of these curses are called the unforgivable curses, because they are the worste immagionable.
Griffin glanced quickly over his paper before turning it in to the professor.

Addison walked into the classroom, seconds after her professor walked in. She quickly hurried to pick a seat, she'd seen Professor Lovegood, as they were just told to call her, somewhere around school. She seemed nice, strict almost, but still nice. Addison rummaged through her bag and took out some parchment and ink, writing down "It's the practice of black magic, or magic that's harmful to someone."
Looking up just in time, she heard Professor Lovegood tell them the assignment, it was simple, taking out her book she turned to page 27, and began to write.
Dark Spells: 1. Fiendfyre: Cursed fire, made up of flames of abnormal size and heat that can crumble fairly substantial objects. Left burning long enough it will transform into beast and pursue any target human. 2. Sectumsempra: Slashes the skin of a victim according to the movement of the caster's wand, can amputate limbs if the wand is pointed instead of slashing. 3. Petrification: Turns a victim into a stone-like state of unconsciousness.
Light Spells: 1. Glisseo: Converts the target object into a smooth slide. 2. Levitation Charm (Wingardium Leviosa): A basic charm that allows the target to float up to five feet above the ground. 3. Locomotor (enter object name here): Moves an object.
Addison stared down at her paper, she was pleased, it was neat, well arranged, and she hoped all her spelling was correct. Writing down her name, she walked over to her professor's desk, smiled slightly, set down the paper and walked off to her desk.

When she walked in she could already tell she was going like this class. The seats were line up in rows and D.A.D.A. posters hung on the wall. The teachers desk stood at the front, were Professor Lovegood started class. Rose quickly took the seat closest to her and got out her stuff to start taking notes. As the teacher spoke, Rose could tell that she was going to learn from a teacher her stuff that she would actually use in real life, not stuff that will just be using up time, she had heard from her older brother that some times teacher will do that making class very boring. She took out her book and started reading on page 27 and read several pages before deciding on which spells were light and which were dark. Some she had to decide on her own because not all of the were specified. She went through and picked out the light first. Expecto Patronum- Used to ward off Dementors. It use positive memory or emotion. The book didn't say if light or dark, but Rose saw that if you used Positive anything and the fact that it warded off dark creatures it would be considered light. Feruld- Creates Bandages and splint. She believe anything that involved healing spells was a light spell. Levicorpus-The victim will dangle up-side down by the ankle. This spell immobilize the victim without causing death or near death, so she thought this could be a very useful spell and could be light. Now for the darks. She flipped through the different spells. She didn't want to use the unforgivable because she already knew what they did and why they were dark instead she searched for spells she didn't know anything about. Antonin Dolohv's cruse- Causes severe internal injury: Potentiality lethal.Rose saw that anything that could cause someone to die or almost die was dark and that why she mark this spell as so. Flagrante Curse- Causes an object affect to burn human skin when touched.Rose didn't see and light in this spell, so she marked this one dark as well. Horcux Curse- This spell allows a part of a wizard's soul to pass into a object. One must commit murder.Anything that involved killing another was dark and this curse was surely so. Rose read through her paper one last time before getting up and turning it in. She was sure she had done good on her paper. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_spells
