Erik looked around at is first class of the year. He hoped that he would be looking around at exited faces, but, alas, all he saw were faces ready to leave and some who were already half asleep. Oh, well, if they slept, then they wouldn't pass. Their loss.
"Hello, my name is Professor Augustine, and welcome to your first History of Magic lesson. Okay, we will just get right to it then. We will talk about the evolution of magic beginning with the early Egyptians around 1000B.C. During that time, the muggles knew about wizards and held them in high esteem. When the muggle pharohs died and were burried in pyramids, the wizards put curses on the tombs to keep them safe. Today, Gringotts hires "curse-breakers" to get pass the ancient spells and charms to find the treasures burried deep within them."
Erik took a deep breath and continued.
"I'm sure all of you know who Ollivander is; most of you probably bought your wands from him. Well, in 382B.C., he opened his wand shop. It is the largest, oldest, and most thriving wand shop in the history of magic."
"Around 900A.D., brooms began to become as popular as they are to day beginning with the start of the annual Swedish broom races. This race was in Sweden and ran from Kopparberg to Arjeplog, a distance of 300 miles. But, the broomsticks that they used, were very uncomfortable. A German illuminating manuscript was found with pictures of wizards dissmounting these primitive brooms with looks of pain on their faces."
"In 993, Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded by Godric Griffindore, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. The exsact date is not known, but in the early 1000's, Salazar Slytherin created the chamber of secrets which is said to be the home of some sort of monster. Slytherin believed that Hogwarts should only allow pure-blood students to attend, so he wanted this monster to get rid of the muggle borns in the school, but the monster wasn't freed until hundreds of years later. When the dissagreements between Salazar Slytherin and Godric Griffindore got out of hand, Slytherin made the decision to leave Hogwarts forever."
"Well, that's it for today; please write the question that are on the board on you paper and answer them. Turn in your paper before the end of the class."
Erik, with a wave of his wand, wrote the questions to the quiz on the board before returning to his desk. He sat down and gazed about the room at all the students
