Roxie was truly confused now. If the girl was an orphan, why be cheery? But, since she moved on to the weird, messy headed kid, Roxie also decided to switch attention to the other new boy.
When she looked, she saw him glaring at someone from the Hufflepuff house. "Heh, why waste your time hating those losers?" she asked, smirking. "They're like ants." Then she winked at this new boy.

Griffin walked down the hufflepuff table until he saw a blond first year boy sitting by himself. He walked over, sat down, and introduced himself.
"Hi, my name's Griffin. Is it just me or does it seem like we are the only first year hufflepuffs?"

Night noticed his embarrassment and tried not to be too open so as not to scare him away. She found him very interesting and would like to get to know him. She even tried to tone down the smile a bit as it seemed to scare people.
She gently looked up, "I'm glad to hear that." She blinked slowly pulling her classes off to clean them on her shirt. The absence of the glass construing her eyes allowed the red sparks that danced amongst the chocolate irises to be seen clearly. This was only for a moment however as she soon replaced the specs.
"I do hope I am not being too forward, but I would like to be your friend if you will have me" she said in a slightly deeper smooth tone than the peppy one she had been using. It sounded more natural.

Astin was a little taken-aback. He'd planned on eating his dinner, suffering through just as long as was polite, and then quietly sneaking off to "the bathroom," a.k.a. his bed. Instead, another first-year Hufflepuff-- a boy with bright blue eyes and a large smile-- felt the urge to make conversation.
Astin smiled a little. "I thought so too." He wasn't sure if he should put his hand out or if that was a little too formal; introductions were always a little awkward for him, what with the importance of first impressions and all. He went ahead and held out his hand, though, for the sake of doing something beside sitting there. "Hi. I'm Astin."

"Hi, as I've already mentioned, I'm Griffin," he shook his hand, "it's nice to meet you." Griffin, after not talking to a soul all day in fear of rejection, was glad to have met a potential friend. He was a naturally friendly person, but somehow never had many.
"So, I saw you get into an argument with that slytherin kid at the train."

Severus blinked and looked up at her again. People were truly...odd here. There was so much difference. Some were standoffish and shy like him, others were totally open like this girl, and still others were totally obnoxious. He glanced at the Gryffindor table where James and Sirius were talking and glared. Something about those two just ticked him off...he couldn't explain it.
"Uh...sure," he replied to Night. She seemed nice anyways. "Sorry I guess I'm not very good at this."
(OOC: Just a heads up, I need to go in an hour but I'll be back in a few hours.)

Sirius was about to say that he wasn't sure which House he wanted to be in, so long as it wasn't Slytherin, when they got to the Great Hall and James decided to make it a race. No way in hell, kid, he thought as his legs gave a tired groan. Everyone was here, and, as soon as the Sorting was over, he gleefully joined James at the Gryffindor table. Ha! Take that, you guys! he thought triumphantly as he sat down and stuffed his face with chicken. A few tables away, he could clearly see Nessie and Bella glaring at him, and he flashed them a smile full of chicken in return. They looked disgusted, much to his delight, and he thought he caught Andy giving him a wink as he turned to James again. "Bet you're glad you got into Gryffindor. I'm the first in my family to be."

Post by Joanne Jordan on Jun 7, 2010 17:25:35 GMT -5
Joanne nervously sat at the Ravenclaw table, not sure what to do. She and Samantha have never been separated like this before!!!! To distract her from her loneliness and being separated from her sister, she listened to the Headmaster (whom she remembered hearing from her mother that his name was Dumbledore) as he warned the new students (and some of the returning students) about the dangers lurking around the school. Considering she up with this kind of thing happening, she was not so surprised when the food suddenly appeared. She looked around at some of the other students at the table, and judging by their shocked reactions, she guessed they were from muggle families (or they were from wizarding families but this had never happened at home).
Joanne turned around to look for her sister, who had been sorted into Gryffindor, and saw that she was already stuffing her face. Suddenly feeling a little bit better, she turned back around and started piling food on her plate.
“Is everything OK?” the boy sitting to her right asked her. He had noticed are looking around with a worried expression on her face, and figured it was his duty to make her feel welcome. Joanne had a bite halfway to her mouth when the boy started talking to her. She put her fork back down on her plate, turned and the boy, and said, “Just looking for my sister is all; she got sorted into Gryffindor. This is the first time we’ve been separated like this since our parents died, so I’m rather nervous about being apart from her.”
“Well if you ever need anybody to talk to, just let me know. My name is Damien Pledge,” the boy told her, putting his hand out for her to shake. Joanne took his hand and shook it. “Joanne Jordan; nice to meet you.” Then they both went back to their food.

"Heh, why waste your time hating those losers? They're like ants."
Dastan took his eyes off of his nemesis and turned to the girl that had spoken to him. It was one of the chatty girls from before. Taking a deep breath to grant him patience, he looked her straight in the eyes. "You never know what someone can be capable of. They may be in the Loser House, but if we assume they're all losers, it makes it possible to underestimate them. And underestimating an enemy can have dire consequences," he said.
Astin seemed to have found someone to talk to. Shaking his head and taking his attention away from the idiot, Dastan found himself wishing to be anywhere else. This place was so...loud. It reminded him of the Bazaar.

Astin blushed. So people had noticed that.
"He... bumped into me and then acted like it was my fault," he said, trying not to come off as too pugnacious. "Things like that bother me," Astin explained as he reached for a dinner roll.
Now that some of the nerves had faded, his appetite was back full-force. His mom always told him that he had black hole for a stomach. Now, eating dinner for one of the first times without her there, he found that he rather missed her jokes. At least the loneliness was absolved a little by a new companion.

"Awesome." She felt more relaxed and so she calmed down and now wasn't smiling all the time but had a pleasant aura about her and she looked up at him smoothing her skirt slightly.
She slipped off her legs to sit with her butt on the seat and got about6 inches shorter. Night blushed softly as the table was then to her just above her chest. "me thinks I shall have to invest in a booster seat of some kind... as embarrassing as that is" she laughed and took a bite of a biscuit.

"So you have a temper huh? That's okay, so do I, but I try not to let it get the best of me.'
Griffin smiled then turned to pile his plate high with the food that seemed to stretch for mile along the table. He was so exited to have a friend that he started to babble, which was what he tended to do when he got to nervous or exited.
"So, what kind of family do you come from? Is it half-blood, or are you muggle-born, or pure blood. Although, pure blood is so rare these days, and most of them are in Slytherin, so it would be kind of crazy to think that you are pure blood. You're not, are you? Well, I'm half blood. My dad's a muggle, but he knows about magic; and my mom's a witch but rarely uses magic around the house. So, what about you?

James groaned audibly as Sirius beat him to the table. He laughed, however, and pat him on the back once as he sat down next to him. He immediately lunged for the Shepperd's pie, nabbing four of them and piling them on his plate. He took a bite out of the first one, glancing over at Sirius when he said something.
"Bet you're glad you got into Gryffindor. I'm the first in my family to be."
"Whuffouse ahh you fwhom den?" Particles of flaky crust flew out of his mouth and he covered his mouth, swallowing his food quickly. He threw an apologetic look at Sirius and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. Er--what house is your family from then? What is your last name anyhow?"

Severus smiled a little and even laughed softly at the booster seat comment. "Who knows? Hogwarts is a wonderful place. You might even learn a spell to help you with that." His stomach rumbled, reminding him he was hungry so he continued to eat, nodding here and there to comments she would make and listening to her. He liked listening to people. He was a lot better at it than talking to them, anyway. When he finished, he stood up, the combination of the day's events and the pleasant feeling of being full making him drowzy. "Well it was nice meeting you. Perhaps we'll bump into each other again tomorrow." He gave her a wave and also waved to Lily as he left the Hall, and she smiled and waved back before returning her attention to another Gryffindow girl. It really did stink that they weren't in the same house, but they would have a lot of the same classes and see each other around, so he wasn't too worried.
(OOC: Gotta leave sooner than I thought, guys. Really sorry. I'll be around later, I promise!)

"I'm muggle-born, I guess," Astin replied with a shrug. "My mom's not a witch at least, but I don't remember my dad. He died when I was little." Astin took a long drink of pumpkin juice. "My mom was so scared of magic that she almost didn't let me come to Hogwarts, though." He grinned a little at Griffin. It was really nice to have someone to talk to, and in his house, even!
"What about you? Did your mom come to Hogwarts?" Astin asked, finding he was truly interested.
