Astin almost snorted at Griffin's comment. He thought suburbia was hell? For Astin, who had never quite had a normal family or a normal life, he thought that perfect cookie-cutter existence was a beautiful thing. He thought it was a symbol of success; it proved that you were accepted somewhere into a separate group from the rest.
Astin had never belonged to any group, up until now. Hogwarts was one of the best things to ever happen to him; he already had a sort of family in Hufflepuff, and he fully welcomed it.
"I think suburbia would be nice," Astin eventually replied. "My mom, my brother, and I are sort of outcasts in my hometown. It's like everyone pities us but blames us at the same time for my father's death. It got worse when my uncle was killed." Astin shrugged. "But the past is the past, and there's no sense in getting upset over it."

"Wow, we have really different views on the suject. You don't understand how suffocating suberban life is. I feel like here is the only place I've ever been able to stretch and breath."
He couldn't understand how someone with a more exiting life could want his "leave it to beaver" homelife.

Astin laughed a little before shrugging. "Life itself is suffocating, I think. But I don't know, to each his own." Astin took a large bite of his mashed potatoes. "Emuff'a dis sheriush shtuff." He swallowed and smiled apologetically for his poor table manners. "What classes are you taking?"

"I'm taking all the main classes: transfiguration, charms, potions, defense against the dark arts, and herbology. I only had room for one more class and couldn't decide between divination, care of magical creatures, or astronomy. But, in the end, I chose care of magical creatures. What classes are you taking?"

Dastan closed his eyes when Roxie caught up with him. He was getting fed up with this girl. "Listen to me, you stupid girl! Just because you have money, it doesn't mean you have power! There's more to it than that! You aren't 'destined' to be a great witch; you aren't 'destined' to be anything. We make our own destiny."
Dastan took a deep breath, knowing he was making a scene (yet again) and not caring. "I'm proud of the fact that I have money; who isn't? But that's not all there is to me. And that seems to be like that's all you are about. I don't want to be friends with you; I don't need friends. I will gain power on my own. Not because I'm destined to have it, but because I choose to have it. Now back off."
Dastan turned and left again, this time not caring where he ended up but just wanting to be out of that room.
((OOC: Dastan has left the building. Dramatically. XD)

Roxie huffed. Why was this boy being so impatient? Determined to make him her friend, Roxie continued to follow him, even as he left. And even though he was ahead of her, she continued talking.
"If you choose to have power, and you make your destiny, then you're destined for greatness, just like me! And I'm not all about money, good sir, I'm about myself. And I happen to like money!"
This wasn't the end of her talking, ad she kept trying to get him to listen as she followed him away.

Astin ticked off on his fingers while Griffin counted off his classes. "Well, I'm taking all of those except Care of Magical Creatures," he said with a grin. "I chose Astronomy instead. You know, our Head of House, Professor Smith, teaches it. She's really nice."
Astin chewed thoughtfully on a bite of chicken. "Maybe we'll see each other a lot. We have like... five classes together, right?" Ooh, instant study-buddy, maybe? Astin wondered if Griffin would be interested, but knowing each other for half of dinner wasn't exactly a friendship-for-life qualification, so he left it at that.

"Well, it's getting kind of late. I'll see you in the common room, or tomarrow in class if I'm already asleep by the time you get there. Night, Astin."
Griffin got up and walked slowly out of the great hall; stopping only to ask a prefect the directions and password to the common room.

Astin smiled and waved Griffin off until the brunet was out of sight. Then, he slumped a little over his half-full plate. What was he going to do now? He absently stirred his potatoes around with his fork. Griffin was nice. It was nice to have a friend.
A yawn overcame him, and he stretched widely. He decided to retire to his dorm as well, the moment he finished his food.

Elena walked into the Great Hall after getting off the boats. She scratched her nose and waited to be Sorted. When she was, she grinned and strutted to the Gryffindor table. She sat down next to a couple of First years, waving quickly at them. She flashed a quick smile then piled her plate with chicken, Shepperd's pie, mashed potatoes with gravy, and biscuits. She began stuffing her face, looking around for someone to talk to.
She sighed after she was done and glanced around. No one had bothered to say anything to her. She rolled her eyes and stood up, walking out of the Great Hall to explore the rest of the castle.

Jumping slightly in surprise, Joanne turned to her left. She had been lost in thought when this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl tapped her lightly on the shoulder. ."Hi, there," she said cheerfully. "I'm Anna...and you're...." Joanne looked at her with a blank look on her face, not knowing what to make of this very odd girl. "You're Joanne Jordan, twin of Samantha Jordan!" she proclaimed triumphantly. Joanne’s eyes widened slightly as she was taken aback that this girl knew her name. “U-Um, yes that’s me; how did you know?”

Eirwyn nearly collapsed when she entered the Great Hall. Finally, after all the drama and the extreme emotions of the night, she'd reached her destination. Her stomach growled, reminding her fully of the purpose of the feast. She nearly ran to an open seat at the Gryffindor table and collapsed, happy to at least know where she was with others who knew where she'd be going next. She vowed to pay more attention next time; being late once was fine, but being late twice was absolutely unforgivable.
Eirwyn eagerly dug into some corn, smiling a little to herself. That Dastan kid really wasn't as bad as he pretended to be.

“U-Um, yes that’s me; how did you know?” Anna blinked, then grinned. "That's easy, kid. You might call it a gift." She winked and started picking at a lollipop.
"I'm Anna!"

Still taken aback by how this strange girl knew her name, Joanne shook her hand nervously, then went back to her food.
All of a sudden, a piece of parchment appeared over her plate. It read:Joanne Jordan First Year Schedule
Charms: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Lunch
Potions 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Excellent!!!! Joanne thought to herself as she finished off her pudding. She picked up her schedule, got up from the table, and walked out of the Great Hall.

Post by Peter Pettigrew on Jun 18, 2010 1:51:38 GMT -5
Peter was in joyous shock as he walked over to the Gryffindor table. He hadn’t expected to be sorted into such a prestigious House. To be honest, he had expected to be sorted into Hufflepuff, like his mum was. He sat down a few seats away from where the boy who had fallen in was sitting. Before being sorted, one of the staff had dried him off with their wand.
After everyone had been sorted, Dumbledore stood up and made a few announcements before food appeared on the tables and the Welcome Feast started. Peter started filling his plate with numerous goodies, then started eating while listening to the conversations around him, most of which were about parentage and bloodlines. Some of the older students were catching up on events that occurred over the summer break.
When he was done eating his fill, he got up from the table and headed out of the Great Hall eager to get out of his (slightly stained) uniform, into his pj's, and into bed.
